Marriages are made in Heaven?

4:23 AM

Love stories DON'T have a "happy ending". There is either a "sad ending" or "life ever after" and obviously the perceived "live ever after" doesn't always run on the same lines as the speculated "happy ending".

And whenever I think "Why?", I am always reminded of the popular quote "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus". The sooner we digest this quote, the better for all of us. But it doesn't end there, does it?

So where do these differences start?

Right at "I do". When a women says "I do" at the marriage, she quite ignorantly but literally means "...till death do us apart". That's until she realizes how men conveniently mean "I do... till laptops, work, TV, booze and other stuff do us apart".

Of course, marriage means sacrifice for both men and women.
  • For women, it starts with bravely sacrificing the comfort of the kingdom where she was a princess. For her, it means new responsibilities - maintaining a household that would talk tales about her capability, her 'assumed' masterchef talents to keep her man happy with her culinary achievements (best way to keep a man happy is through his stomach or something, right?), her art of demanding and giving up...
  • And for men, it means sacrificing the unquestionable freedom (bachelorhood?) they had so ostentatiously flaunted. For him, it means new responsibilities - listening to her nagging or mastering the art of turning a deaf ear, being creative with instinctive excuses  (from anything she would expect from him)...
An ideal woman would love to kick start her weekend with her loved one by spending quality time doing what they would both love to do. Too bad for her, an ideal man starts off his weekend with his friends, beer and booze, watching football and cricket. And then again come the laptops, TV and other important gadgets that replace her weekend after weekend.

Be it food or fashion, discussion or decision, women and men invariably have humungous difference in opinion, given their Martian and Venusian backgrounds. ;)

It is not romance that keeps a relationship going but the intimate friendship between the couple. Remember, Friendship is the way to perfect understanding.

You often hear that "Perfect matches are made in heaven", have you ever wondered where are "perfect mismatches are made"?  ;)

Of course, the tell-tales from Mars would be different now, wouldn't they? ;)
